Guidelines Before IVF Treatment and During Pregnancy

7 November 20257 min readNicosia IVF Center

One of the main concerns of our patients before IVF treatment is what they should pay attention to during the treatment process.

Lifestyle and nutrition

Maintain a balanced and regular diet.
Avoid excessive caffeine, alcohol and smoking.
Drink 2–2.5 litres of water daily.
Fresh vegetables, fruit and protein-rich foods support egg and sperm quality.
Avoid fast food and fried foods.

Vitamins and supplements

Folic acid, vitamin D and, if necessary, supplements such as CoQ10 and Omega-3 can be started under a doctor's guidance. Do not take supplements randomly; always get medical approval.

Stress management

Psychological support, meditation or light walks can help you relax during treatment. Keep a regular sleep schedule of 7–8 hours per night.

Medical preparations

Necessary tests such as blood tests, hysterosalpingography (HSG), ultrasound and sperm analysis should be completed, and chronic conditions such as thyroid disorders or diabetes must be under control.

During treatment

Take medications exactly as prescribed, at the correct time and dose; contact your clinic if a dose is missed.
Prefer light, easily digestible and high-protein foods, and avoid heavy exercise or lifting.
Abstain from sexual intercourse during the periods advised by your doctor.
Avoid pools, saunas and hammams, and do not use vaginal douches or unprescribed medication.

After embryo transfer and during pregnancy

Rest for the first 48 hours after transfer, then gradually return to light daily activities.
Do not stop support medication such as progesterone unless your doctor advises it.
Choose fresh, natural foods and reduce caffeine and carbonated drinks.
Be especially careful during the first 12 weeks, avoid smoking, alcohol, heavy exercise and sleep deprivation, and do not miss your appointments.
