What is embryo donation?
Embryo donation is an IVF method that offers hope to couples who cannot conceive using their own reproductive cells. Healthy donor eggs and sperm obtained from certified sperm banks are combined using microinjection techniques in advanced laboratories and transferred to the mother, providing a chance for pregnancy that would otherwise be impossible naturally.
The process
The embryo donation process is personalised for each couple. The recipient's uterus is prepared through her menstrual cycle or hormone support, which typically takes 14–18 days and is monitored regularly via ultrasound. Eggs from the donor and sperm from the sperm bank are fertilized in the lab, and embryos develop over five days. The transfer is performed painlessly under ultrasound guidance, and twelve days later a blood test determines the pregnancy outcome.
